Why do we always look at everyone else's life and think, oh, I wish I had that? Because we usually see the positive side of everything. You don't look at someone's life during their suffering and think, oh, gosh, I want that life. Today's guest is Rachel Cruz, one of the leading voices in personal finance. Through her books, podcast and financial education, she's helped millions take control of their money and build lasting financial confidence. Her mission is to help people stop living paycheck to paycheck, make smarter financial decisions, and create lasting financial freedom. I speak a lot about the knowing-doing gap. We all know what we should do, but we never actually do it. We all know what to do. We all know what we should and shouldn't do. It's not like there's a lack of information. But for some reason, we still don't do the things that we're supposed to do. What is the best way to be content with what you actually have in life? For me, I found before contentment, I think the first step was gratitude because gratitude allows you to be centered in your present life. And that change of your posture of your heart is huge. MyFitnessPal is a success story partner. Now here's something I've noticed after interviewing hundreds of founders, the ones that are performing at the highest level, the ones that are truly winning, they aren't just optimizing their business or their calendar or their team, they're paying attention to what they eat. And the ones who aren't paying attention, they're usually the first ones to burn out. And that pattern is consistent enough that it got me thinking about my own nutrition, Not whether I was eating well, but whether I actually knew what the big picture looked like. That's why I started using the MyFitnessPal app. I wanted to see what I was actually eating, not what I assumed I was eating, but the real numbers, what my protein intake looked like, what my macronutrient breakdown was, where my calories were actually going throughout the day. And the app gives you all of that. Now, what kept me using it is that there's zero friction. If I eat something, I scan the barcode, it pulls everything up. I can also verbally log what I eat. And it remembers my regular meals. So most days I'm logging my food in under a minute. See, food is a foundation for your energy, your sleep, your recovery, and your performance. It's not one of many inputs. It is the one input. So go to podcast.myfitnesspal.com and use code SCOTT. All uppercades for 15% off MyFitnessPal Premium. That's podcast.myfitnesspal.com, code SCOTT. I want to talk about, so your latest book is Know Yourself, Know Your Money, Love Your Life, Not Theirs. So why does everyone else, like everyone else's life, we have this, I don't know, is this grass is greener complex? Yeah, totally. Yes, yes. Why do we always look at everyone else's life and think, oh, I wish I had that? Because we usually see the positive side of everything. You don't look at someone's life during their suffering and think, oh, gosh, I want that life. Right. You're usually seeing a projection of something. And so, yeah, it's fascinating, even with my job. And, you know, writing, it's funny, is like my least favorite part of my job. I don't care to write. It's not my favorite thing. But books are a great way to get ideas out. So Love Your Life Not Theirs was one of my first books that I did write. And it had to do all with comparison. And so walking through my own story and I think places where I struggle or where I saw deficiencies and thinking like, OK, I'm struggling with this, working through some of it, not at perfection by any means, and then thinking, OK, I'm sure other people have this thought, too. And that was kind of around the year social media like really started taking off. Because gosh, it was probably eight or nine years ago. And then my book, Know Yourself, Know Your Money was my next one. And that was going through after the psychology of understanding, okay, if I know how I grew up with money, if I know my natural money tendencies, then I can actually start to change my habits around money. So that's what's fascinating about when you write, or at least in my experience, has been through the things that I struggle with. So starting with love yourself, know your money. I'm sorry, love your life, not theirs. Love your life, not theirs. Yeah, I had to do all with comparison because I'm like, it is such... And it's such this like made up world, especially social media. Like it's like this like, you know, fourth dimension of like it's not reality. And yet that's the thing. And we all know that intellectually. But when you still scroll and you get in this dopamine kick, you still kind of start to believe this lie that like everyone has it better or that for some reason, you know, everyone's life is easier. It's more fun. It's more exciting. It's more successful. Like you start to like play into these lies and. And the problem is, is that seeps into our money habits and the way we view our money, the way we spend our money and see our lives.
